New Members
A warm welcome is given to all. Enthusiasm and the desire to be part of a team are the two most important assets required of a new member. Singing has been proven to enhance both physical and mental health. You will join over sixty like minded potential friends. The first few rehearsals will probably be confusing but, even if you cannot read music and have never sung from a score before, we have produced many on line resources to help you. These can be accessed via the members' section of this website. Please ask any member of the committee for the required password.
You won't be expected to take part in concerts until you feel confident. In addition to the rehearsals and performances there are also social events during the year, such as BBQs and curry nights, for choir members and their partners.
The first step is to find out what happens at rehearsals. You might want to watch one on You Tube. To view the latest, use the link on the Choir home page or search for "Monmouth Voice" in the You Tube app.
You can simply turn up at a rehearsal but it might be wise to email the secretary, Stuart Baber, just to ensure that the choir does have one on that particular night. We will also be able look out for you and make you welcome.
If you like what you see then join us. Lewis Hutton, our musical director, will make a preliminary assessment of your vocal range and decide if you are best suited to sing with the Tenor 1, Tenor 2, Baritone or Bass sections. This might change as your confidence increases. You are then at the beginning of an exciting journey developing new skills and friendships.
If you thought male voice choirs were only for retired gentle folk our age demographic might surprise you!
Rehearsals take place at the Monmouth Baptist Church, 3 Monk St NP25 3LR every Thursday at 7.30pm. All are welcome. We're a varied, friendly and inclusive bunch! After the rehearsal most of the choir adjourns to "The Club" in Whitecross Street to socialise. This is less than 100m from our rehearsal venue and is our registered administrative base and postal address.
There is a free one month trial period and, if you decide to join us, the current subscription is £10/month payable by direct debit. Membership includes all scores and access to learning resources.
